Muddy Princess: Dominique's Bride Tribe

It's funny how things seem to be serendipitous sometimes. Just last week, while putting Bayley to bed, I was reading up on some of my old blogposts. I do that sometimes; go back to the current month a year or two ago, and check what we were up to at that time. And, I happened to stumble across a post in which I said that I planned to do Muddy Princess after baby's birth. Well, what do you know: this past weekend, I finally did it.

The event was on Saturday, but the story starts long before then. In fact, my sisters, friends and I have been speaking about doing this for ages, but then inevitably someone is pregnant, or just given birth, or still breastfeeding, and we end up not doing it. In January this year, however, fuelled somewhat by Ashleigh's limited time in SA, and Dominique's pending wedding, we took the bull by the horn and booked. And I am so glad we did.

We had decided that this event would be the last for us as sisters before Dom took the plunge, and so on Saturday, Dominique's Bride Tribe piled into the bus and made our way to The Purple Windmill in Stellenbosch. We had managed to get matching branded vests, and a yellow tutu wedding dress for Dom. And as a final surprise, had our mother join the team, last minute, at registration.

On paper anyway, Muddy Princess is a non-competitive, more fun than fierce event, but don't be fooled: these Hendricks girls do not do things "for fun". We tackled the 5km course of 18 obstacles head on - from sliding down mudslides to climbing A-frames and swinging through chains. And we have the bumps and bruises to show for it! Best of all though: we did it together, pretty much like we've always done things.

But now the bug has bitten. Despite my intense dislike of dirt (and I was rolling around in mud like a baby pig), I had a really good time. Being between other women, doing something fun and physical really did wonders for my mind, body and spirit - and now I want to do more! So next on my list is Impi Challenge with Andel which I hope to do, eventually.

In the meantime, Dominique's Bride Tribe continues to plan for the Big Day. Watch this space for a post on that soon!
